NEAL MOSER, "THE MUSICIAN"EVERY STORY HAS A BEGINNINGNeal Moser's love of guitars was a natural bi-product of his life as a musician and singer. He started playing guitar at the age of 13. By the time he was 17 he was playing in a band called "The Vicounts", which played nothing but Surf Music. This was a band whose members were all students at Burbank High School, Burbank, Ca. By age 18 he had formed his own band "The Wild Ones", which was picked up by the COLPICS Record Label, a subsidiary of Columbia Pictures. Their name was quickly changed to "The Tigers". Neal and the Tigers missed their opportunity at fame and fortune when they were offered the pilot for the TV Show "The Monkeys" and could not accept the offer because both Neal and the lead singer Berry had just been drafted into the military. Oh Well !
While in the Navy, Neal continued to jam with guys on the station and in 1968 joined a nightclub band called "The Roustabouts" who played one nighters and occasional club gigs. In 1969 Neal met a drummer in the Navy and formed his own band named "Quo Vadis". In this band Neal played lead guitar and was lead vocalist. This band metamorphasized into "Free Spirit" and two years later to "The Spice of Life". Neal and the band were well liked and continued to play nightclubs in the San Fernando Valley area of California from 1969 to 1992. They played variety show material five nights a week as a trio. This trio consisted of Neal Moser, Rol Varanese on bass guitar and Dave Mitchell on drums. |
